Grand Forks: Notes

From Dewdney's Letter dated May 27th, 1865 Fort Shepherd

"The route is excellent for a trail or road from Boundary Creek to the Inchwointon, but at this season of the year the whole valley of this river, about a mile in width, is flooded - it is thickly timbered with small pine and cottonwood rendering it impossible to work or raft through it."

From Dewdney's Letter dated December 20, 1865, New Westminster

"The work which I consider necessary to be done on the line from Sooyoos Lake to Wild Horse Creek to make it passable at all seasons of the year I estimate as follows:

  • On the section from Boundary Creek to Columbia River, a bridge will be required over the North Fork of Kettle River and span about 150 feet - $1500
  • A bridge over Christina Creek spans 60 feet - $200
  • A bridge over Sheep Creek spans 70 feet - $100
  • Two other small streams - $100"
