Introduction: A Travel Through Time

Through observations, comparisons and consultations, archaeologists have been able to work out a chronology of Quebec prehistory. This chronology represents a reference tool, based on information from sites in Quebec, Ontario and the State of New York. It nevertheless remains a hypothetical construct.

However, over the past 150 years, increasingly sophisticated methods and ever more refined analyses have been developed in prehistoric archaeology in Quebec. The number of specialists working in the field never ceases to grow. The following section presents a brief history of how the discipline came into existence and gradually took shape in Quebec.
