Commentaries :

This little song, sung by Richard Bastien, is probably only a fragment of a much longer song (since songs in the oral tradition weren’t written down, sometimes the words were lost). A man named Martin goes to see his neighbour, the miller. The miller hitches his donkey up to the grindstone but says he won’t have time to grind the grain until tomorrow. The long chorus imitates the sound the mill makes. In this type of song, the audience would repeat every line and join in on the chorus.
