Commentaries : According to some folklorists, this song has been delighting young and old for over a thousand years. It is sung all over the French-speaking world, from France to Canada to Louisiana. A girl is forced to marry a tiny man - so tiny, she loses him in her bed. She burns the straw mattress and sifts through the ashes to find him. The cat ends up carrying the roasted morsel away. The girl proclaims her next husband will be six and a half feet tall! There are many versions of this song, sung to different tunes and with different choruses.
