Veazie Wilson (1865-1895) was born in Cherryfield Me. He was
educated as an electrical engineer and worked for several years on the Illinois Central
Railroad in charge of the trains leaving Chicago. In February 1894, he set out for the
Yukon River to prepare a guide to the Alaska mines, especially Forty Mile, in Canada and
Circle City, in Alaska. He returned with 200 photographs. Wilson's illustrated guide was almost completed when he was stricken
with typhoid fever and died in February 1895 at the age of 30. The booklet was one of many
sold to would-be miners, excited by the discovery of gold on Bonanza Creek in August 1896.
