A land of nature...
At the core of the reserve is the mountain, the last remnant of the magnificent primeval forests that once covered the entire Richelieu River valley, home to nearly 1,000 species of plants, mammals, birds and reptiles, over 50 of which are rare or threatened.
A brief encounter with any of these inhabitants of the mountain or marvellous landscapes will transform your visit into a moment of wonder and magic. While springtime showcases the forest’s beauty, summer is the season of the meadows, birds and fields. With its spectacular colors, fall is also the period for chipmunks, squirrels and other animals to get ready for winter. When the land is covered in snow, chickadee, coyote and deer leave track of their presence.
Keep your eyes and ears open and explore with us the seasons, places, animals, plants and geology of the Mont Saint-Hilaire Biosphere Reserve.
Have a nice visit!
