The preservation zone covers about half of the Gault Nature Reserve and contains vast ancient forests over 250 years old. These woodlands are rare remnants of the pre-colonial forests that once blanketed the area. Access is prohibited to the general public to preserve the area’s environmental integrity, allow for research and give the fauna a chance to live and reproduce undisturbed.
