The first light here (1889) was a lantern hoisted on a 9.1 m (30 foot) mast with a shed at its base. The current tower has been moved frequently (12 times between 1889 and 1938) to line up with the shifting channel.

The current tower was designed by the Department of Marine and built by Mr. M. Walsh, who was a builder with the department. The tower was first an open frame tower that was later enclosed and shingled. It was typical of the era, with a utilitarian appearance. The front range is similar to the back range, but has wooden brackets and corner boards. The tower is painted white and has a red vertical stripe on the range line.

This range light is located within a private cottage area.
