This is a white square tower with a vertical red stripe, similar in design to the Port Borden Back Range Light. It has steeply sloping sides and a gallery that rests on open brackets. It was designed by the Department of Marine and its builder is unknown. It is likely it was a skeleton tower when it was built. In 1907 it was placed on a new ballasted cribwork and was moved in 1919.

In the winter of 2000 it was severely damaged during a storm surge. There was concern that it would be replaced by a metal tower but local residents gave strong support to have the tower repaired. During the summer of 2000 extensive repairs were undertaken. The top 6 m (20 feet) had to be cut off and carefully placed on the lawn of the adjacent property, while the lower 3.6 m (12 feet) had to be completely demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Area residents and others expressed delight that the unique city landmark had been saved from destruction.
