Hands are an extension of the intellect and the uniquely human ability to create. In every corner of the world handcrafts tell the story of the people, their emotions, their society, and their physical environment. The story of the Crafts Guild of Manitoba is primarily the story of women: their hands, their minds, and their hearts. The instinct of these women to create a kinder, more hospitable existence resulted in extraordinary inventiveness and a legacy of beautiful craftsmanship.
"Manicuring the hands, tinting the fingertips and using powder and perfumery and snugly-fitting gloves is all very pleasing... but hands would never be beautiful if they were helpless and untrained." - Mrs. Harry Bottomley, member of the executive of the Canadian Handicrafts Guild in Montreal, and speaker, 1928.
