Peters Projection, ODT Virtual Museum of Canada

This black and white map has all the markings of traditional cartography. It shows latitude and longitude and all the continents. However, this map of the globe has been adjusted for land mass rather than for shape.

Peters Projection, ODT

The Peters map was produced from a cartographic movement trying to understand the social-political implications of map design. The Peters Projection is concerned with preserving equal land mass area, rather then preserving shape when the sphere of the globe is distorted to a two dimensional plane. A conventional world map or projection preserves shape and distorts land mass representing, for example, Greenland as the same size as Africa, when Africa is 13 times larger. Source: Wikipedia
