The building's significance in the history of the province has been recognized by the Historic Sites and Monument Board of Canada in 1991 when it was designated as a Heritage Railway Station. This plaque was unveiled in 1994 in commemoration of the former Newfoundland Railway Headquarters. Railway Coastal Museum.
