Introduction

Introductory Slideshow

Map of Railway lines across Newfoundland.
This map shows the main railway line across the Island as well as the branch lines from 1897-1923. The Newfoundland Railway was not built to cross the Island in the shortest possible way but attempted to make the interior of the Island more accessible and to develop the natural resources. Many of the communities in the interior owe their existence to the railway. Railway Coastal Museum.
