Once a Trace, Not Always a Trace...

The science of trace fossils is relatively new. There is still a lot to learn. In the early 1800's, many scientists believed that most trace fossils were made by plants. Along the way, some structures that weren't made by animals were interpreted as trace fossils. Then somebody said, "Hmmmmmm..."
