The firefighters’ participation in the food drive goes back a long time. For more than twenty-five years, they have been deeply committed to helping the Knights of Columbus alleviate poverty in Saint-Eustache. Perhaps some of the seniors will remember the spaghetti dinners organized by the firefighters at the Municipal Community Centre.

Poverty is not always visible and the firefighters’ food drive gives Saint-Eustache families a boost that makes a real difference to their holiday celebrations. A few weeks before Christmas, the fire trucks are parked in the streets and roadblocks are set up. The firefighters, some wearing Santa hats, walk back and forth between the cars and passers-by to pass the hat, which is always generously filled. Business owners also join in. Saint-Eustache has a strong sense of community spirit and camaraderie!

The firefighters raise an average of $10,000 to $15,000 in one day for the food drive, allowing the Knights of Columbus to add fresh produce to the Christmas baskets for families.
