Aurora Banner (June 17, 1904)
In a time before television and film, local sporting events were the most popular form of entertainment. These events brought the whole community together and like many other events there was a cost involved in organizing it.
One way to offset the cost was to charge an admission fee, so fencing was erected around Town Park, and admission fees were set. Of course, people could still watch the games from the other side of the fence and, according to this report, more then a few people chose to do so!
