Inspired by William Van Horne’s drawing Proposed house for Lord Aberdeen, near Coldstream Ranch, B.C., 1895, Library and Archives Canada
William Van Horne gave the Aberdeens a sketch for a proposed new house at Rattlesnake Point. The design was of a wood and shingle structure, dominated by a tower about 32 feet in diameter. It is possible that Van Horne may have presented Bruce Price with a similar sketch upon commissioning him to design the Canadian Pacific Railway (C.P.R.) hotel, the Chateau Frontenac in 1893.
