Protesters at Victoria Hall
In very public opposition to the proposed expansion of the Cobourg Marina, citizens took to the streets. An Advocacy Group’s petition was widely circulated.
By the time the petition against expansion closed it had received 7,004 signatures – in a town of about 20,000.
The resolution of the affair, with the decision not to proceed with expansion, led one local editorial writer to call the leaders of the Advocacy Group “Cobourg’s Citizens of the Year”.
