A Glimpse of the Guard

The Stories Behind the Calgary Fire Department Honour Guard

Community is a feeling of fellowship within a group of individuals due to bonds created by similar attitudes, common interests, and mutual goals. Within the Calgary Fire Honour Guard, this sense of community exists externally for the community at large and internally as a tightly knit family amongst the ceremonial unit itself.

Established in 1971, the Calgary Fire Honour Guard is made up of current and retired firefighters. They volunteer their time and dedicate their hearts and compassion so that they may proudly represent the fire department and everyone it affects. The main role of the Calgary Fire Honour Guard is to pay tribute to fallen comrades, but it does so much more than this. It acts as a ceremonial guard in parades, funerals, and weddings. The Honour Guard can be seen at graduations, sporting events and even royal visits. It plays an important public role in the City of Calgary and beyond.
