Elder mine, sometimes called Peel-Elder mine, was located in Évain (today a district of Rouyn-Noranda). Gold deposits were discovered in 1933, but Elder Gold Mines Limited only started the underground workings in 1944. The mine operated from 1946 to 1966 and its mined ores were processed at the Horne smelter.
