Emery was born on 27 October 1890, in Brantford ON, to Reuben and Elizabeth Emery. After moving to London, ON, he lived with his parents at 467 Dorinda St., and worked as a photographer. Prior to the war, Cpl. Emery served 2 years with the 7th Regiment Fusiliers in London, ON, and belonged to the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers at the time of his enlistment. In July 1915, Reuben Emery enlisted as a Private in the 78th Btn in Winnipeg. He was promoted to Lance Corporal but reverted to the rank of Private upon being sent to the front. He was promoted to Corporal in the field on 2 October 1916. Cpl. Emery was killed in action on 30 October 1916 at twenty-seven years of age.
He is commemorated on page 83 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
