Introduction

Immigration from one country to another has been a common occurrence throughout time. Historians, sociologists, and journalists have tended to focus their attention on those who chose to leave their nations behind for a new country. But immigration also has had far-reaching effects on those left behind.

The following Learning Object Collection is part of a virtual exhibit entitled Canada Germany Migration, which highlights selected aspects on the theme of German migration to Canada. The theme of this Collection is the effects of immigration on the family members left behind.

Explore four case studies in which immigration is viewed from a unique vantagepoint: from within the family nucleus.
