Introduction

This Learning Collection features three unique cultural celebrations held annually from South and Central America.

The Children’s Festival of Popular Culture is an event designed to promote the concept of Costa Rica as a multicultural and multilingual country.

The Porto Alegre’s carnival coverage places special emphasis on the world of the Samba Schools. These schools bring people together in a yearly cultural activity that involves social interactions and a sense of belonging extending beyond the fleeting days of Carnival.

Also featured are the celebrations of the days of the dead among the Zapotec people who live in the central valleys of the exceptionally interesting State of Oaxaca, in southeast Mexico.
