“This is the truth, that I now tell you….”

Ballads were often composed to make sure an important event in the history of a community would be remembered. Many of these ballads featured tragedies, resulting from natural causes or human error. They usually originated close to the time of the event, and included specific details that could easily be forgotten if not captured at that moment.

Your task is to compose a modern ballad, similar to the format used in the nineteenth century, although you may use the idiom of today. The subject matter should be local, provincial, or regional. The event portrayed should have happened within the last five years.
