Toronto -- Winnipeg
Departure: Wednesday at 22:00
Arrival: Friday at 6:00

School Cars
In the 1920s in Northern Ontario, there were few families, and they lived far away from one another. Rather than building a school for the children, the government decided to establish school cars. They stopped for 3 to 6 days in each location. The teachers gave the students lots of homework to do until the school car came by again the following month.

Military Troops
In 1885, the Métis in Saskatchewan rebelled. Van Horne suggested to the government that military troops be sent from Toronto to Qu’appelle, Saskatchewan, in… 10 days. What was he thinking of? The railway between the Red River and Qu’Appelle had not even been completed. They were still 137 km short. Never mind, he said, the soldiers would continue on foot.
Van Horne met the challenge: the soldiers took only 9 days to reach their destination.
This event convinced the government to make another loan to the CPR to finish the railway.
