The methodists are also in the news early in 1831. A committee was considering a site and location for their Academy. The places reviewed were York, Cobourg, Colbourne, Belleville, Kingston and Brockville. The final choice was Cobourg by a majority of five to two. The land was donated by Cobourg citizen George Spencer.
(Victoria College, as the Academy would be named, was finished in 1834. Egerton Ryerson was appointed its first principal)
