Nikkei History


World War I is fought in Europe. Hoping to prove their loyalty to Canada, over 200 Nikkei volunteer for the Canadian Army. They are rejected for service in British Columbia. However, 195 issei volunteers and one nisei travel to Alberta to join Canadian battalions of the British army. 54 are killed and 92 are wounded.
