Founding the Club

Asahi originals

The Vancouver Asahi baseball team was established in 1914. It was an amateur club of young Nikkei players, some from the same village in Japan, Kadeima, in Shiga prefecture. Three brothers, Mickey Kitagawa, Yo Horii, and Eddie Kitagawa, and two teammates, Yosomatsu Nishizaki and Matsujiro Miyasaki formed the core of this early team.
