Japanese term meaning ‘of Japanese descent,’ referring to Japanese immigrants and their descendants.

Into the Senior League

In 1918 the Vancouver Nippon team folded, and some of their best players joined the Asahi Baseball Club. The Asahis emerged as the leading Nikkei senior team. They came into their own in Vancouver Senior league play. "Bariki" Kasahara, who joined the Asahis from the Victoria Nippon club, was the Asahi's manager from 1918 to 1921.
