Japanese term meaning ‘of Japanese descent,’ referring to Japanese immigrants and their descendants.

Near the end of the baseball season in 1939, war broke out in Europe. Nikkei, including Asahi team members, volunteered to serve. They were refused. That season, and again in 1940, the Asahi club won the Burrard League championship at the Powell Street Grounds.
