Edward Blanchard speaks

Edward Blanchard:

"My involvement with the Farmers' Bank of Rustico goes back to the year 1937. I was asked by the St. Augustine's Credit Union to attend a three-week course at the Extension Department of St. Francis Xavier University of Antigonish, Nova Scotia on the cooperative and Credit Union Movement.

My great grandfather, Marin Blanchard was the first cashier of the Farmers' Bank in the year 1864 and many stories were handed down to my father and myself over the years. My father was a great admirer of Father Belcourt and spoke on many occasions on the great work he accomplished while pastor in Rustico from 1859-1869. When I retired in 1979, I became again involved with the Farmers' Bank in many areas and since incorporation in 1996, I have acted as Secretary-Treasurer."
