Seven Mile Dam

Operator: BC Hydro
Type: Run of river reservoir, concrete gravity dam

HISTORY

The Seven Mile Dam is located on the Pend d'Oreille River upstream from the Teck Cominco Waneta Dam and downstream from the Seattle City Light's Boundary Project in the U.S.. Construction of the dam began in 1975 and generators started producing power in 1979. It is a concrete gravity dam with five spillways and a four unit powerhouse.

The reservoir behind the Seven Mile Dam displaced a handful of landowners and impacted fish habitat. Water levels on the Pend d'Oreille River are regulated to ensure optimum output. As the Seven Mile Dam is located between two other generating stations, the water it utilizes is in balance between the two and the fluctuation of the reservoir is limited.
