QUICK FACTS
Spillimacheen Dam
Completed: 1955
Operator: BC Hydro
Type: Run of river with small dam

HISTORY

Located on a tributary of the Columbia River in the Rocky Mountain Trench, the Spillimacheen Dam benefits from the typical cold winters and hot summers in the area that produce a sizable amount of runoff. Constructed in 1955, the small dam connects to the powerhouse with 1.5 km (0.9 mi) penstocks. The electrical output from this run-of-the-river dam varies according to the seasonal runoff.
