Plants drying inside a longhouse
For sustenance the St. Lawrence Iroquoians depended largely on one essential food – corn. The Iroquoians used a slash and burn method of farming and cultivated corn, beans and squash, known as the Three Sisters.
While the women took care of the fields and gathered wild food, the men engaged in hunting and fishing activities that provided a certain diversity in the diet of the St. Lawrence Iroquoians.
