Lesson Objective: The Learner Will Be Able To

  1. Create a comic strip of at least ten captions of the Duke of Abruzzi’s ascent of Mt. Elias
  2. Illustrate and colour the comic strip

Materials:
  • Computer with internet access
  • Plain, white paper
  • Pencil, eraser
  • Pencil crayons

Lesson Process:

(10 minutes) begin class with overheads of your favorite comic strips. Show between 3-5. Discuss what makes a good comic strip and why.

(10 minutes) Create a list of five top criteria for an excellent comic.

(10 minutes) Review the information on the Duke of Abruzzi through completing the KWL chart from lesson one.

Using their notes, and the computer to do any extra research they may need. Have the students create a comic strip of the Duke of Abruzzi’s Mt. St. Elias climb.
  • The comic must be at least ten caption long
  • It needs to be coloured
  • It must contain actual information
  • Must include the other men that were with the Duke
  • It should begin on June 20th and finish on July 31st

For a conclusion, display the comic strips for the class to see.
