Working in Silence

Living in quiet contemplation enables the monks to focus their mind. It maintains a calm and peaceful environment perfect for meditating on the wonders of the Divine. Although they may speak at certain times, or when is necessary, the community will also use hand signals to communicate.

Experience the serenity of silence by slowly working it into your daily routine. For five minutes in the morning just enjoy the peace of a new day by sitting by the window and enjoying the changing seasons. Ask your family, or friends, to join in a silent meal once a week, or request that your teacher gives an assignment that is accomplished in a group without verbal communication. Try learning some sign language.
