Olde Towne Stoney Creek may have started as a "First Among Equals", but by the end of the 19th century, it was the driving force in urban development in Saltfleet.

How ironic then that in the 20th century urban sprawl would overtake the Olde Towne especially along Queenston Road/Highway 8.

Indeed the original heartland of the area, the King Street axis between Centennial and Gray's Road, was rendered somewhat of an economic backwater by the late 20th century, as development surged east into Fruitland and Winona.

Today the Olde Towne is the keeper of Stoney Creek's heritage, and redevelopment may yet bring it back to economic prominence.
