You have to get an even cut on all the way around by clearing all the bark and knots off. Chipping it to perfection is an important part of making a ring. Tie a string on one end of it and after you have chipped it to what you need, you wrap it around a 5 inch measure and then tie it together. It looks very easy but it is just the contrary and does require alot of patience.
