Another man, Arthur Osmond, held the undisputed title of being the best man to put up wood in all the company operations. This was based on proper lengths, trimming and piling. Arthur was also a skilled river driver. Skilled drivers were men who knew how to harness water to power for best results, they could identify the log that caused a log jam, was skilful in handling a boat in rough water, and in the days of long timber, was able to ride a single log downstream. He also possessed know how in arranging logs along the river side to create a proper channel for the prevention of log jam. Agility in crossing a river on loosely congested timber was also a mark of a good driver.
