Here are lists of a few vessels which according to local tradition that were built here in Birchy Bay.
The Nimble
The Lewis brothers of Barr'd Islands as many of the men at that time were master boat builders. The Lewis brothers John, Silas, William and Joseph built a small schooner referred to as a bully in Doting Cove at Baytona point. It is unknown how large this vessel was. This vessel was used maybe for the Labrador fishery or just a ferry of sorts to move the families supplies into the bays.
The Three Brothers
It was recorded that the three Mews brothers, Hiram, Eli and, Joseph built this boat. This vessel was also used for the fishery and to move to and from Barr'd Islands.
The Water Lily
This vessel was built by James Mews, the Pioneer of Birchy Bay not much is known of this vessel.
The Empire
The Empire was a larger vessel built by the French's brothers of Birchy Bay. Not much is known of this vessel other than that she was of two masts.
In Birchy Bay there are a number of traditions which link certain areas to boat construction. One place in particular called Mash's dock was where the Canning family was employed to deck a vessel. Not much is known other then the lumber was sawn by hand and hauled on hand slide from Jumpers pond to be used.
French's Point was also the area where the well known "Over the Top" was built. As well the vessel by the name of the Empire may have been built here.
Schooner cove which is now called Doting Cove was where the Nimble was believed to have been built by the Lewis Brothers.
