It was a scene never to be forgotten and beyond the power of man to control. There was barely time for the soot to cool before reconstruction began. By late 1946 most of the buildings were rebuilt on the same foundations as their predecessors. The Union Trading Company had erected new buildings to house the fish plant, department store, and the Union Electric Light and Power Company. The Hotel was rebuilt to a two story structure instead of the original three stories. The Church of the Holy Martyrs was worked on vigorously into the night of December 24th, 1945 to open for service on Christmas morning. The stained glass windows that were lost in the fire were replaced.
