The Lakeview House Hotel was destroyed by fire in May 1918. Prior to the season opening, the hotel was completely refurbished with new furniture, two pianos and new silverware. An employee mistook the gasoline stove for a coal oil stove and when he lit the stove it exploded. Within two and one-half hours, the entire building was destroyed.9
With the loss of the Lakeview House Hotel, some of the grandeur of Grimsby Park was gone. |
