LOCAL LEADERSHIP -The volunteer board of directors for the Strait of Canso Superport Limited includes representatives from the three levels of government, the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, shippers and ship service providers. Its mandate is to "promote and accommodate mariner operations in the Strait of Canso for the benefit of the area's economy".

PAPER AND GYPSUM SINCE 1962 -The Strait of Canso Superport has one of the finest deep water, ice free and dredge free harbours on the east coast of North America. Stora Enso Port Hawkesbury Limited (Nova Scotia Pulp Limited originally) established in Point Tupper in 1959, four years after the completion of the Canso Causeway which stopped the huge drift ice on the north side. This company and Georgia Pacific have been creating jobs on the Strait of Canso since 1962.

ANADARKO CANADA BEAR HEAD LNG- The new Liquified Natural Gas terminal being built at Bear Head is further evidence of the area's growth potential that has evolved from the world class, ice free port that was created with the construction of the Canso Causeway which was completed in 1955.
