In 2000 the "Summer Series" was started at the rodeo grounds to give local children the chance to practice rodeo events such as barrel racing and team roping. Every Thursday night during the summer children, as young as three years of age, compete.

"My family travels with us as often as they can. George competes in the Little Britches rodeos. We all compete in the Summer Series in Wood Mountain - Michelle in barrel racing and goat tying, George and Zane in barrel racing and myself in steer wrestling."

Rodeo is recognized as part of the world of sport. At the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City a local cowboy, Murray Linthicum and his partner Rocky Dallyn won the gold medal in team roping, a demonstration sport.

"The only way we were going to win was to be faster than 5.2. We hit the barrier just right and I threw as far as I could and got him. And my partner Rocky rolled in there and roped two feet and the big screen came up and we looked up and it was 5.1 and it was just about unbelievable. I guess when it was all said and done we were the Champions."
- Murray Linthicum

Cowboys wear special garb for color and for safety. Vests and helmets have reduced the number of rodeo injuries. Since the 1960's the Rodeo Club has arranged to have an ambulance on site. Accidents are not that common because the cowboys, like other athletes, try to stay in top physical condition.

Year after year the rodeo contestants thrill the fans with their performances. As the bronc rider gets down on his horse, as the bull rider completes his wrap, as the steer wrestler lines up his horse in the box, the crowd waits in anticipation of the ride or the run , the whistle or the flag. To the fan an eight second ride may seem short, but for the rider it can seem like a long time.

The Committee arranges for a midway, a dance band, and other special attractions. By rodeo time the grounds are buzzing with activity. Sometimes the attraction consists of air plane rides, sometimes it is a pony ride or a ferris wheel.
