Soon after the war, Robert Cato and other Korean veterans noticed that the warmth of their welcome quickly faded. Canadians, tired of years of war were ready and anxious to put the memories behind them.

"The war was just non-existent to most of the Canadian public, even when we came home, although we had a tremendous welcome when we came home from the people of B.C., but east of B.C. it was just 'so what, they have come back from one of their booze cruise' or something, it had no meaning at all and this is why we have been fighting all thse years to be recognized as veterans..."
