Cow Head Facility
In 1991-92 with a cod fishery in a state of crisis the provincial government refurbished the shipyard and also established a repair and steel fabrication facility for offshore oil exploration at Cow Head. The Cow Head facility was built to service offshore oil rigs, and handle steel fabrication for the oil industry arising in Newfoundland. By 1993-94 the facility had obtained contracts for steel fabrication of pontoon barges, drilling modules and temporary access towers related to the offshore.
