Alan Argue and Ralph Argue, sons of Russ and Florence, were both overseas in the second World War. Ralph was badly burned when his tank was hit on D-Day, but returned to service. Allen worked for the Manitoba Pool elevator for a time after his discharge from the army.
In 1928, after the death of their father, Florence took over the Mather store, moving the family back to Mather. The depression of the 1930's brought the business nearly to bankruptcy. Florence asked to get out, to save what she could. Charles Argue decided to hang on and bought out Florence.

Newt Duncalfe was born November 2nd, 1917 at Miami, Manitoba. He is the son of Tracy and Ellen Duncalfe, and grandson of William Picken Duncalfe. He worked in the Mather area from 1937-1939 then worked for HBM & S. in Flin Flon until January of 1942. He joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers, later transferring to the Cameron Highlanders, when they called for re-enforcement's after the Dieppe Raid. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from July 1944 to May 1945, (attached to Stalag 8B).

Merton Fenton, son of John and Eliza, had two brothers and four sisters. They lived on the farm in the times of butter making, home made ice cream, quilting bees, and wood cutting bees.

Edgar Ford, son of William and Eula, joined the Air Force in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. His mother sang lovely old ballads and hymns and his dad often joined in playing his violin. His mother died June 8, 1930.
