In order to refurbish the home and preserve it for the future, several steps need to be taken. First of these was to lift the house up on jacks and replace and raise the foundation of the building.

Once the Misner house was placed onto its new foundation the house was sixty centimetres (twenty four inches) higher than its original position.

The second step was to replace the siding and window frames. As much of the original material was conserved as possible. The time worn, wavy glass of the multi-pane windows was re-inserted in new wood where necessary.

The siding for the home was removed carefully to preserve the structure and framing of the Misener house. The best of the siding was set aside and reused on the east wall
