The factory's location in town meant many of Frost & Wood's employees walked to work. For employees commuting from the Lombard and Brockville Street areas, the company installed a pontoon bridge across the Rideau Canal as a short-cut.

The bridge was just wide enough for one person at a time, but connected Wood Island to the factory just beneath Market Street.
