TRANSCRIPT

The Battle of D-Day

Local Oshawa boys sent overseas were stationed on the Western Front in Sicily, Italy, and Juno Beach. On June 6th 1944 Canadian forces advanced further into France than any other Allied nation. Although Canadian forces suffered 800 casualties, this date was marked as a turning point in the war and was later named D-Day. This was the day that the world began to believe that the war would soon be over. The war in Europe finally came to an end on May 7th 1945, almost one full year after D-Day.
